UNI PDR 88 Reference Procedure: A Technical Approach
The UNI PDR 88 Reference Procedure, published in 2020, is a fundamental document that defines the methods for verifying the content of recycled and/or recovered and/or by-product material declared by an organization for its own product.
Purpose of UNI PDR 88 Reference Procedure
The main objective of UNI PDR 88 is to provide a tool for determining the content of recycled and/or recovered and/or by-product material present in construction products, generally used in construction, urban furnishings, metal products, and in general in all products that do not have specific standards or reference procedures for calculating the content of recycled and/or recovered and/or by-product material.
Applicability of UNI PDR 88 Reference Procedure
The procedure applies to products indicated in the decrees of the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of the Territory and the Sea, already published and to be published in the future, relating to the minimum environmental criteria (CAM), and/or indicated in the decree of the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of the Territory and the Sea delegated by Article 26 ter of Law No. 58 of June 28, 2019.
Exclusions from UNI PDR 88 Reference Procedure
The procedure does not apply, in any case, to materials and products obtained from the recovery of plastic waste from separate collection or from other post-consumer circuits and to materials and products obtained from pre-industrial post-consumer waste and from plastic by-products.
Usefulness of UNI PDR 88 Reference Procedure
The procedure is also useful for demonstrating the recycled material content requirement for products, product components, and materials from various building sustainability protocols (e.g. LEED, ITACA, etc.).
